Cloud Forest Ride
- Hits: 9496
2 days/ 1 night - Riding difficulty: Moderate (or fit beginners) Riding time: 4-5 hours each day
This program is for 2 to 12 riders. This trip will give you the opportunity to visit the unique cloud forest ecosystem in the middle of the Ecuadorian Andes. Perfect for adventure seekers, intermediate riders, advanced riders with little time and beginners looking for a longer ride.
We recommend, especially for less experienced riders, to book a full day at La Alegria before the trip.
You will arrive in the morning to Hacienda La Alegria. We can arrange the transfer if needed. You will prepare the horses with the staff and try a number of horses and tack. You will go on approximately 4 hour horse ride with our staff in which you will have a first introduction to the Ecuadorian Andes. Then you will start your journey to the Ecological Reserve in the Cloud Forest. You will stay at a lodge that is owned by a couple that has been working with us for the past 10 years. It is a very nice ride, with some adventure but manageable for riders with little experience that are athletic and interested in a challenge. You will appreciate a drastic change of vegetation while going down to the reserve. Enjoy homemade meals, and take a tour with the owner who is a passionate biologist that takes care of his own orchids.
This ride is 380 USD per person and includes the ride, lunch and dinner the first day, accommodation, breakfast, and lunch the second day. You will be arriving back to the hacienda at about 3:00 in the afternoon. Ask for children and family discounts
We arrange this ride frequently - please email for details and availability
Horses and tack
At Hacienda La Alegria our horses are very important to us. Most have been bred here on the farm from mixed Criollo (native South American), English Thoroughbred and Arabian stock, resulting in a near perfect combination of toughness, agility, calm temperament and "mountain sense". Beginners and experienced riders alike have found them easy to ride, willing and good mannered. If you have previous riding experience you will be given plenty of opportunity to canter. We have a range of tack including North American style, English style, Mclellan calvary, Chillean and traditional Ecuadorian "Chagra" style with its intricate leather-work and saddle horn.
